Frequently Asked Questions

Using our microscope configurator tool, you are guided to choose from both required and optional modules. Based on your choices, the configurator tool automatically adds and lists any required parts. A dynamic price list is generated and your order is based on your selections.

Included

The XY-stage, Z focus stage, motorized filter cube turret, camera tube lens and microscope body are the basic microscope modules which are included with every system.

Optional

Epi and transmitted illuminators, a lighting controller, a junction block for an additional port into the infinity corrected space, a Joystick controller, stage inserts for sample mounting, a motorized objective turret, and cameras are optional and can be ordered if required using the microscope configurator tool. These modules can also be ordered from Zaber individually if you wish to expand your system's capabilities over time.

While optional, the X-JOY3 joystick controller is highly recommended. It provides simple and intuitive control over sample positioning, focus, filter cube changes and helps make changing objectives even faster.

Not included

Filter cubes and objective lenses are not included with Zaber microscopes and cannot be purchased through the configurator or Zaber webstore. These components must be purchased separately from specialized suppliers. Zaber microscopes use Zeiss Axio "Push & Click" style filter cubes with tilted emissions filters. Zeiss ICS, Nikon CFI60 and Olympus objectives are supported depending on your microscope's selected optical system. The MJB25 module does not include a filter or dichroic. These must also be purchased separately.

Recommended filter cubes:

  • Chroma Part Number: 91029
  • Semrock Part Number: ZHE

Sample-specific inserts for the XY stage securely hold the desired sample and ensure its planarity and maintain a consistent focus across the full range of stage travel. Stage inserts for one, two or six microplates are available. Custom inserts are available to meet your application specific requirements.

Stage inserts are XY stage model-specific. The microscope configurator tools display the stage inserts which are supported by your selected XY stage.

X-ADR130 and X-ASR100 stages are compatible with standard "K-Frame" 160 mm x 110 mm inserts and stage top incubators.

Image acquisition is handled in software either by your microscope control software (Inscoper, µManager) or by the software included with your camera.

Zaber Application Notes provide detailed instructions on how to acquire single images or a series of images.

Camera triggering can be done in software using Zaber Motion Library or using IO triggering for high-speed, low-latency synchronization.

Zaber microscopes support bright field and dark field epi-illumination, widefield and phase contrast transmitted illumination. An optional MLG3A 3 mm liquid light guide coupler is available for use with 3rd party light engines.

While a hardware autofocus module is not available, users can precisely control the focus stage using imaging-based auto-focus methods available in most compatible software. The Zaber Motion Library API provides users with tools required to implement their own solutions. Sample code is available on our GitHub page. Laser-based autofocus implementations are also possible using the optional MJB25 module which provides an additional port into the infinity corrected space.
